Roastery Renovation Week 2 - Patio Restoration & Hardwood Reveal

As week two of our roastery renovation unfolded, we realized that we needed a professional touch to truly bring our vision to life. That's when we turned to Misi Overturf, an expert in interior design, who guided us through the next phase of our transformation. From our first meeting, it was clear we were in good hands.

Bringing the Patio Back to Life

One of the most exciting decisions we made with Misi was to restore the original veranda patio. Previously caged in and covered up, this outdoor space will become an essential extension of our roastery. It will be a serene spot for guests to enjoy their coffee while overlooking our expanding garden. However, as we delved into the project, we discovered that the original stairs connecting the garden to the veranda had been removed. This presented an opportunity for us to craft a brand-new staircase—and we’re planning to make it something special.

Curved Staircase Planning

In keeping with our design style, we decided to incorporate our signature curved corners into the new staircase. This will echo the beautiful arched opening we’re creating inside the roastery and serve as both a practical and aesthetic link between the patio and the garden, where we envision a playful connection to our existing playground. The staircase will seamlessly blend with the design of the space while enhancing the overall flow between the indoor and outdoor areas.

Uncovering the Hidden Beauty Indoors

While the rain delayed our outdoor projects, we focused our efforts inside. With Misi’s guidance, we brought in sandblasters to remove years of paint and varnish that had hidden the original Oregon pine woodwork. Beneath the layers, we uncovered stunning trim work, doors, windows, ceilings, and flooring. It was a transformation worth witnessing, and Misi captured the process in one of her Instagram reels, which you can watch here.

Letting the Light In

Once the rain cleared, we got to work outdoors, removing the drywall that had enclosed the patio. As soon as it came down, natural light streamed in, completely transforming the space. Although the security fencing and gates still need to be removed, we can already feel the openness that will define our future roastery. Check out the transformation in this reel here.

Major Milestones

Week two brought several major milestones, from uncovering the beauty of the original woodwork to opening up the patio to natural light. And with the planning of our signature curved staircase, we’re one step closer to creating the perfect space for our guests to enjoy coffee, play, and community.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue the exciting journey of transforming SadieCoffee’s new roastery!
