A KINDRED COMMUNITY ⠂coffee ⠂food ⠂connection
Johann Sadie’s rugby career took him around the world — and introduced him to incredible food and coffee along the way.
“I had my first flat white in Australia. It was smooth, sweet, and full of flavour. That’s when I realised what coffee could be.”
Later, while living in France, Johann’s appreciation grew — not just for coffee, but for craft, quality, and connection through food. After 13 years of rugby, he returned to South Africa with a dream: to bring people together through coffee done right.
He started roasting in his garage on a small Bullet roaster from Taiwan. At first, it was just for family and friends. But word spread. In 2022, SadieCoffee opened its first coffee bar in Welgevonden, Stellenbosch. A second container café followed soon after.
By 2024, the first sit-down café opened in Paarl, along with a full roastery next door, equipped with a 6kg Genio air roaster. Today, SadieCoffee is focused on flavour, consistency, and creating spaces where meaningful conversations can happen.
