Johann Sadie’s rugby career took him across the world — and everywhere he went, coffee was part of the story. From his first flat white in Australia, smooth and sweet, to long lunches in France where craft and connection came alive, Johann discovered that coffee was more than a drink. It was a way people came together.

When he returned to South Africa after 13 years of rugby, Johann carried that dream with him: to create spaces where people could connect through coffee done right. He started small, roasting in his garage on a Bullet roaster from Taiwan. Friends and family came first, then neighbours, and soon word spread further.

By 2022, the first SadieCoffee bar opened in Welgevonden, Stellenbosch. A second container café followed, and in 2024, the Paarl sit-down café and full roastery became the brand’s beating heart. Today, with a 6kg Genio air roaster and a team committed to flavour and consistency, SadieCoffee is more than a café — it’s a community.
